REDDING, Calif. Vince Ampi, Johnny Farrington and Boone Farrington all stroked three hits as Dr. Stewarts defeated the Redding Vipers 7-3 Wednesday night in an American Legion baseball game.
The Docs (12-2) went ahead for good with a run in the top of the seventh inning. Ampi doubled with one out and advanced to third on a single by Jered Stoffal, then Johnny Farrington scored Ampi with a single.
Dr. Stewarts finished with 13 hits. Nick Parren and Cole Johnston each had three hits for Redding.
Ive been really happy with the kids offensively, said Dr. Stewarts coach Scott Shaver. Theyve been real focused and taking good at-bats.
Brandon Jackson, Justin Counts and Dakota Mathis shared the pitching duties for the Docs, with Counts getting the decision with three innings of shutout ball.
Our pitchers did a good job, Shaver said. That was a good hitting team. They put two runs on us in the first, but Brandon (Jackson) settled down and the defense played well behind him.
The Docs will host Vancouver, Wash., on Friday night at Legion Field in a doubleheader, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. Dr. Stewarts opens Area 4 play Saturday night, hosting the Eugene Bi-Mart Challengers in a twin bill.
