Small town plans big party

Riddle Sawdust Jubilee starts Thursday

Riddle is planning for its 26th Sawdust Jubilee to start at noon on Thursday.

The annual events include booths in City Park, entertainment by illusionist Phil Crosson, Calamity Jazz and the Umpqua Timbermen Barbershop Chorus, games, contests and a kids logging competition.

On Friday, activities will begin with the annual Jubilee breakfast at 8 a.m. A National Guard flyover will follow at 10:45 a.m., and the Sawdust Jubilee parade will start at 11 a.m. The Riddle Rural Fire Department will again hold a barbecue at noon and booths will open at about that time as well.

Other highlights include lawn mower races, a car show on Main Street with a special “redneck division,” a motorcycle poker run, a beer garden, basketball and cribbage tournaments, an amateur logging competition, kids games, and entertainment including the Coyote Ridge Band, Kenny Holmes, Common Ground and No Limit.

The Riddle Sawdust Jubilee ends with a fireworks display at 10 p.m. at the Riddle High School football field.

Admission is free; donations are welcome.
