It won’t be hard to catch a fireworks show while cruising the Interstate 5 corridor through Douglas County on the Fourth of July. But several communities off the beaten path will also be hosting celebrations with music, food, games and more.
Following is a list of events:
GLENDALE CELEBRATION: Parade lineup 12:30 p.m. on Willis Avenue; parade starts at 1:30 p.m. A local talent show begins at 2:30 p.m with games to follow, such as beanbag tosses and bingo at Glendale High School. Fireworks will follow at dark. 832-2106.
RIDDLE SAWDUST JUBILEE: 8 to 10 a.m. breakfast, Riddle Community Center, 123 Parkside St. The 26th annual Riddle Sawdust Jubilee will include a National Guard flyover at 10:45 a.m., a parade following the flyover, a beer garden and barbecue, a car show, adult and children’s logging competitions, a cribbage tournament and more events throughout the day. The day will end with fireworks slated to begin at 10 p.m. at the Riddle High School football field. 874-2100.
WINSTON FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Molly McGinnis Memorial Fun Day for special needs children at the small baseball diamond at Winston Middle School; noon to 12:45 p.m., registration sign-up for parade in the Harrison’s Hardware/Abby’s Pizza and Winston Realty parking lots on Douglas Boulevard; 1 p.m., parade begins (ends at Riverbend Park); 2 p.m. to close, food vendors in the park; 2 to 6 p.m., bingo at the park pavilion; 2 p.m. to close, Harley-Davidson and Corvette clubs Show and Shine; 3 p.m., basketball at Riverbend Park courts; 4 to 6 p.m., Burger Blast competition in the park; evening, glow-in-the-dark dodgeball; 7:30 p.m., Oregon Coast Evolution Lab Band concert as part of Riverbend Live!; dark, fireworks display. 679-8721.
ROSEBURG JULY FOURTH EXTRAVAGANZA: From 4 to 10:30 p.m., near Nichols Band Shell, Stewart Park. Food vendors set up at 4 p.m.; Dixonville Chicks perform, 5 p.m.; biplane flyover, 6 p.m.; Umpqua Timbermen perform, 7 p.m.; Rod Johnson skydives near crowd, 8:20 p.m.; Big Horn Band plays, 8:30 p.m.; Chloe McKinley sings National Anthem, 9:55 p.m.; fireworks start, 10 p.m. 672-7701.
REEDSPORT/GARDINER/WINCHESTER BAY: Fireworks at dusk. 271-3495.
OAKLAND FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION: 11 a.m. parade starts at City Hall. Food, games and music by the Oakland Community Chorus following the parade at City Park. 459-4531.
PICNIC/POTLUCK AT SCOTTSBURG PARK: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Scottsburg Park alongside the Umpqua River on Highway 28. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided. Bring a potluck dish and nonalcoholic beverage of your choice. Raffle tickets will be available for a $100 gas card. The drawing will be held at the picnic. YONCALLA CELEBRATION: Parade will start at 10:30 a.m., downtown Yoncalla. This year Laurent Neu, a professional entertainer, will sing while patrons wait for the parade. The 53rd annual Yoncalla Rodeo is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday; tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and kids 12 and younger. The rodeo is an NPRA rodeo with all nine NPRA events. Following the rodeo at 5 p.m., there will be a free ice cream social at the Yoncalla Community Center and at 7 p.m. David Prezley, an Elvis impersonator, will perform at the high school baseball field. GLIDE COMMUNITY INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION: Starts at 5:30 p.m., goes until 10:30 p.m. Food, family, fun, concert and fireworks behind Glide Middle School, 301 Glide Loop Drive. Free community event.
