EUGENE Vince Ampi ripped a two-run homer and improved to 4-1 on the mound in the nightcap of an Area 4 doubleheader for the Pepsi Bottlecaps, who split with Sheldon Saturday.
The Bottlecaps won the second game 13-8 after dropping the opener 6-4.
Ampi went 5-for-9 on the day. In Game 2, the Roseburg High junior-to-be struck out five and walked two and blasted his two-run four-bagger to center field in the second inning. Blayne Sterling was 3-for-6 and Ethan Sweeden finished 2-for-3 in the nightcap.
The Bottlecaps collected just five hits in the opener, but bounced back with 12 in Game 2. Pepsi coach Richie Charles said the key to his teams success is finding an offensive groove early.
Pepsi (15-7, 10-6 Area 4) plays at North Eugene in a league doubleheader tonight. First pitch is set for 6.
