Pepsi Legion team splits with North Eugene

American Legion Baseball: Bottlecaps take opener 7-5, drop nightcap 8-1

EUGENE — The Pepsi Bottlecaps split with North Eugene on Sunday, winning the first 7-5 and falling 8-1 in the nightcap.

Cameron Newell hit two doubles in the opener and Reid Martin had one. Chris Case improved to 6-1 after striking out three and giving up six hits, five earned runs and four walks. Vince Ampi recorded three doubles, including his team’s only hits in Game 2.

Pepsi (16-8, 11-7 Area 4) travels to play North Coos in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Coos Bay.

Horizon twinbill canceled

The Horizon Motormen’s doubleheader against Willamette, scheduled for Monday, was canceled. The Motormen will next travel to play North Eugene at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a twin bill at Swede Johnson Stadium.
