MEDFORD — A throwing error by North Medford pitcher Kevin Cash with the bases loaded in the top of the third inning scored two Pepsi runs and the Bottlecaps went on to defeat the Mavericks 4-2 in a state tournament seeding game at North Medford High School.

Micah Audiss and Vince Ampi had two hits apiece, including an RBI double by Ampi to left center to score Cameron Newell and give the Bottlecaps a 4-1 lead.

Hayden Wolfe and Jessie Hornbrook each had a pair of hits for the Mavericks (36-14).

Chris Case, who was one of three Pepsi pitchers used, improved to 8-1.

Pepsi (22-10) will meet Ashland (29-8), a 9-1 winner over North Eugene Sunday, at noon Friday in the first round of the state tournament at Clyde Allen Ballpark in North Bend.
