Ampi: Goes 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored
NORTH BEND The Pepsi Bottlecaps lost 11-6 to the Ashland Pilots Friday in a first-round state tournament game at Clyde Allen Ballpark.
The Bottlecaps (22-11) owned a 3-2 lead before giving up six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. They cant afford to lose again in the double-elimination tourney.
Unfortunately, we had a couple of mishaps, Pepsi head coach Richie Charles said. Some walks, errors, and offensively we didnt get the key hit ... well have to forget about those things and move on.
Vince Ampi, who caught for Dr. Stewarts in a 9-7 win over Corvallis Richeys Market Thursday, was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Tyler Bullock (who went 2-for-4), Micah Audiss, Blake Cupp and Reid Martin also scored runs.
Starting pitcher Chris Case (6-2) gave up eight runs and four hits in three and 1/3 innings to take just his second loss of the year. In relief, Josh Davis allowed three runs and four hits and struck out one batter.
Nick Hall and Ian Kendall both went 2-for-3 for Ashland (30-8), the Southern Divisions No. 4-seeded team. Garrett Tygerson earned the win for the Pilots.
Tyler Bullock will start on the mound tomorrow, when Pepsi faces either Franklin or North Coos at 3 p.m. or 6 p.m.
Well just stay the course, come out tomorrow, and its a new day, Charles said. We just need to make sure we are ready to go offensively and defensively.
