NORTH BEND — Anchored by a strong performance by Josh Davis, the Pepsi Bottlecaps defeated the Grants Pass Miners 8-7 Sunday in an American Legion “A” state tournament elimination game at Clyde Allen Field.

Davis hit two two-run doubles, finishing 3-for-4 with five RBIs and earning the win in three innings of work on the mound. He gave up two runs and three hits while striking out three.

In the fourth inning, Davis got the Bottlecaps out of a bases-loaded jam by fanning a batter and then inducing a ground ball.

The Bottlecaps built an 8-3 advantage before the Miners put up two-run innings in the fifth and sixth.

Tyler Bullock had three runs for Pepsi, Vince Ampi recorded two hits and two runs, Micah Audiss hit a double and recorded an RBI and run scored, and Blake Cupp had two hits.

Dylan Albertson had two doubles and two runs and Dylan Armanino hit a double and single and scored twice for the Miners.

Pepsi (24-11) played North Coos in a loser-out game at noon today. North Medford faced Ashland at 4 p.m.

The Bottlecaps swept the Waterfront 1-0, 4-3 in a doubleheader at Legion Field earlier this summer, while the two teams split in North Bend. If Pepsi wins, it will play at noon Tuesday.

In other Sunday games, Ashland buried Wilson 13-0 in five innings and North Medford edged North Coos 5-4.
