The Winston Area Community Partnership was recently awarded $125,000 for its Drug Free Communities Grant program.
Oregon Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden announced that nine Oregon drug-prevention community programs received more than $1 million in federal funding to be used for reducing and preventing substance abuse among youth.
The federal grant comes from the Office of National Drug Control Policys Drug-Free Communities Support Program. The funds will be used to hire staff to coordinate prevention programs, develop media campaigns and implement drug prevention coalitions and curriculum in schools.
The grant will also provide increased outreach for drug education and prevention in more remote areas of the state as well as educate local retailers about reducing youth access to alcohol and tobacco.
The Winston program manager, Linda Cline, said the money will fund the WACP Drug Free Communities Grant program for another five years, beginning Oct. 1.
