The Resource Coordination Committee for the North Umpqua Hydroelectric Project is hosting a public meeting Monday at the Douglas County Library to discuss a fishery study's merits for ramping up habitat improvement projects in the North Umpqua River. That proposal would be in lieu of going forward with a fish ladder at Soda Springs Dam.
During the 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. meeting, the committee will decide if an independent scientific panel is needed to review the study conducted by Stillwater Sciences and presented to PacifiCorp Energy, whose relicensing agreement for its hydroelectric project on the North Umpqua River calls for a fish ladder on its lowest dam.
If the committee decides not to pick a scientific panel, the study by Stillwater will be rendered moot.
Public comments are encouraged at 12:30 p.m. and 2:40 p.m.
Information: (206) 605-9529.
