Elaine Elizabeth Becker, 82, died Monday, September 1, 2008, in Medford, Oregon. A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Cleveland Cemetery, 4851 Melqua Rd, Roseburg. Rev. C.J. Bryant will officiate.
Elaine was born December 16, 1925, in Umpqua, Oregon, to Arthur Melvin and Margaret Arvilla Mathews. In her younger years, she enjoyed living on the family ranch and visiting with her aunts, uncles and cousins.
She also participated in local youth events at the Grange, where she met Roy Becker. She corresponded with him during WWII and they were wed in 1945. They were happily married for 60 years, until Roy passed away in 2006.
She worked most of her life as a secretary in the public schools ñ at Glide High School, Melrose Elementary, Joseph Lane Junior High and for Murl Anderson, Superintendent.
Elaine traveled and camped throughout the West with her friends and family. She was loved and admired by all for her gentle, sweet nature and lively sense of humor.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Willis; son, Rod Becker; daughter, Anita Edwards; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
