MURPHY — Jake Rice rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown and also returned an interception 45 yards for a score to lead North Douglas to a 33-0 rout of the Hidden Valley junior varsity on Thursday night.

Cameron Derrick threw a TD pass to Jordan Hicks and also scored on a quarterback keeper. Tyler Newman scored on a 50-yard run and finished with 94 yards rushing for the Warriors (2-0).

Newman and Rice combined for 11 tackles and two sacks as North Douglas held the Mustangs to negative-one yards rushing.

“It was a great game to build our confidence heading into league play,” North Douglas coach James Shelton said. “We had a good defensive day and were able to score on offense. 2-0 is a great was to start but it only gets tougher from here on out.”

North Douglas opens Mountain View Conference play Sept. 19 at Central Linn in Halsey.
