COOS BAY — The Roseburg girls cross country team dominated the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday, easily winning the team title as Bryanna Oelrich defended her individual title.

The junior turned in a 10,000-meter personal best on the streets of Coos Bay, winning in 41 minutes, 35 seconds.

Rylie Hancock finished fifth in 46:30 and Becki Lee was seventh in 47:25 and the Indians had two more runners in the top 20 to score 21 points, easily outdistancing second place Marshfield (68). The girls found success even without Samantha Pettibone, who sat out with a sore hip.

“They really rallied together and got the job done,” Roseburg head coach Nathan Eckman said. “We were trying to get five girls under 50 minutes.”

Meanwhile, the Roseburg boys finished fourth, led by Salvador Valencia’s 16th place finish in 37:21.

“We were trying to get five under 40 minutes,” Eckman said. “The fifth (Jason Duval) hit 40 minutes exactly.”
