October 11, 1913-
September 29, 2008
Passed away on Tuesday, morning, September 29, 2008, at the age of 94.
Born in Cecilville, California, on October 11, 1913, she graduated from high school at Fort Jones in 1929. Two years later she married James Bartley.
Between 1935 and 1943 she would give birth to one daughter and two sons. After losing James in a fishing accident in 1951, she moved to Myrtle Creek, Oregon, with her three children. In 1961, after her kids were grown and on their own, she married Paul Kistler.
After being pretty much a homebody for the first 60 years of her life, never traveling very far from the nest, Ava flew to Augsburg, Germany, in 1973 to be there for the birth of a grandson. She would go on to make two more trips to Europe, one with her son, Frank Bartley, and one with her daughter and son-in-law, Alf and Dolores Hanson; and one trip to Hawaii with Alf and Dolores.
Ava was a member of the Canyonville Seventh Day Adventist church. She was also Past Noble Grand of Arbor Vitae Rebekah Lodge #11 in Myrtle Creek, Past Chief Matriarch of Canyon Ladies Encampment Auxiliary #79 in Myrtle Creek, Past President of the Snowy Butte Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militant #15 in Grants Pass, and Past District Deputy Grand Matriarch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her son, Wayne Bartley; her son-in-law, Alf Hanson; and her sister, Fern Munson. She is dearly missed, mourned, and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Dolores Hanson, of Myrtle Creek; her son, Frank Bartley and his wife, Jeredith, in Roseburg, Oregon; daughter-in-law, Carol Bartley, in Camas, Washington; six grandchildren, Tara Hanson and partner, Sandrien; Dana Nehl and her husband, John; David Bartley, Brian Bartley; Erin Bartley and his wife, Amy, Ava Tenbrook and her husband, Eric; five great-grandchildren, and nephew, Dale Munson.
Truly, Ava's glass was never half empty, but always half full.
Family graveside service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008, at 12 p.m.
