TRI CITY — Triton Crane carried the ball 20 times for 220 yards and scored four touchdowns and returned an interception 22 yards for another score, leading the Lancers to the win over the Bruins at Loghry Field in their Far West League opener.
South Umpqua (3-3) also got a 2-yard TD run from Clayton Lent and Ryan Smedley contributed two points after tackling a Brookings ballcarrier in the end zone.
The Lancers finished with a 414-165 advantage in total offense. The defense made 11 tackles for losses.

SUTHERLIN — The home Bulldogs produced 74 more yards than the visiting Brown Bulldogs, but hurt themselves with eight costly penalties in the Far West League opener.
Brian Andry carried the ball 13 times, including once for a 47-yard touchdown run, en route to 85 rushing yards for Sutherlin (1-5 overall). Kyle Jaukkuri had 11 carries for 49 yards and made six catches for 48 yards. Kyle Summers picked up a safety to put the home Bulldogs on the scoreboard first.
Jake Lucero’s 19-yard rushing TD, Dalton Iveans’ 55-yard interception return and Cameron Seiger’s 7-yard scoring run pushed North Bend to victory. Lucero carried the ball 13 times for 77 yards.
The home Bulldogs outrushed the away ’Dogs 137-113 and earned 50 more passing yards (79-59). North Bend is guided by Rick Taylor, a former Douglas and Glide coach.
A former North Bend High football coach died Friday night and the school’s athletic director was injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 138 West, about 10 miles west of Sutherlin. They were on their way to watch the North Bend-Sutherlin game.
Howard Johnson, 72, of North Bend, was pronounced dead at the scene. Boyd Bjorkquist, 53, the passenger in the 1999 Cadillac Seville that Johnson drove, received minor injuries.
Sutherlin hosts South Umpqua next Thursday.

CAMAS VALLEY — Ben Carter rushed for a career-high 284 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns as the Hornets knocked the previously unbeaten Timberwolves out of a tie for first place in the Skyline League race.
Camas Valley (3-1, 3-1 Skyline) outgained Triad 560-198, 463 yards coming on the ground. Chase Elliott had 114 yards rushing and a pair of TDs for the Hornets, who shut out Triad in the second half. Ryan Dancer chipped in a TD run.
C.V. coach Eli Wolfe singled out the blocking of Luke Elliott, Aaron Stotler and Howard Wood. Evan Tilton had two fumble recoveries.

SILVER LAKE — Mack Smith’s 1-yard touchdown run in overtime gave the Elks a Skyline League win over the Cowboys.
Elkton (2-2, 2-2 Skyline) held North Lake on downs in its offensive possession in overtime, which started at the 25. The Cowboys advanced to the 1 before Smith and Mat’e Eberhardt combined for a quarterback sack that pushed the ball back to the 11. Preston Fivecoat was forced out of bounds at the 3 on fourth-and goal.
Smith finished with a game-high 146 yards rushing on 33 carries, including TD runs of 58 and 5 yards in regulation. Sophomore Brent Whipple returned a punt 75 yards for a score and added 101 yards rushing on 19 carries. Smith, a linebacker, led the defense with 17 tackles, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.
“Defensively, we were really something in the second half,” said Elkton coach Bill Shaw, noting North Lake had minus-15 yards rushing. Shaw singled out the defense of Smith, tackle Eberhardt (three sacks), and ends Brian Davis and Steve Garrison.

GILCHRIST — The Wolves made a game of it Saturday after trailing 40-16 at halftime, but still lost.
“This is how we’ve played pretty much all year,” Days Creek head coach Gene Forman said. “We seem to be going in the wrong direction.”

OAKLAND — Ethan Sweeden ran for two touchdowns and returned a Riddle interception for a third TD as Oakland rolled to its third straight win.
The Oakers (3-2, 3-0 Mountain View Conference) held Riddle to 134 yards of total offense in the shutout.
Sweeden ran for 123 yards and intercepted the Irish (0-5, 0-3) twice. Kody Bendele scored on a 15-yard run and Nathan Adams threw a TD pass to Josh Reber. Lucas Flint and Grant Adams each registered six tackles.

YONCALLA — The Eagles kept within six points for more than 30 minutes before Central Linn pulled away for the Mountain View Conference win.
Curtis Jones had 13 carries for 63 yards before leaving the game in the third quarter with an injury. Mathew Wilson made 11 tackles for the Eagles.
Yoncalla (2-3, 1-2 MVC), which lost four fumbles, played without five starters and used a third-string quarterback.
Anthony Kayner ran for 89 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries for the Cobras.

OAKRIDGE — Aaron Miller ran for four touchdowns and caught a TD pass from Jake Boyd as Oakridge remained perfect in the Mountain View Conference.
Boyd finished 6-for-11 for 146 yards passing with two TDs and ran for 101 yards.
Justin Ring was 11-for-18 for 187 yards and threw a pair of touchdowns to Dylan Boucher for Glendale (1-4, 0-3).

REEDSPORT — The Braves (3-3, 1-2 Sunset) kept it close, but dropped the game to the Red Devils.
Reedsport’s Cory Christoffersen ran back a 37-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to help the Braves draw within four points.
Josh Palmer, who had 14 carries for 47 yards, gave Reedsport a 7-0 lead in the first quarter with a 3-yard rushing TD. Senior linebacker Cesar Lira led the Braves with 19 tackles, two sacks and an interception.

CENTRAL POINT — Connor Kirkpatrick ran for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Cascade Christian pounded out 429 yards on the ground in a Sunset League rout.
Austin Wipf ran for 81 yards, Josh Kirkland had 63 yards and a TD and Brandon Grissom had 61. The Challengers (3-2, 3-0 Sunset League) scored four times in the second quarter to build a 40-0 lead at halftime.
Brandon Belloir caught a 16-yard TD pass from Will Hissong to get Glide (3-2, 1-2) on the scoreboard in the fourth.
