Office sought: Sutherlin City Council, challenger

Age: 39

Occupation: Firefighter/paramedic with the city of Eugene

Education: Issaquah High School, Issaquah, Wash., 1987; Universal Technical Institute, Phoenix, associate’s degree in auto/diesel, 1990; Umpqua Community College Paramedic Certification, 1999; UCC general studies, 2008

Public service: Coached soccer for Sutherlin Parks and Recreation for last 12 years

Why are you running for office: I am running for City Council because I think we need different leadership in our city government. We need to plan for the future, not be controlled by it. The water issue is a prime example of that. With some preplanning, the city wouldn’t need to increase our water bill to the extent that it was. Ford’s Pond may not have been the fiasco that it is. We wouldn’t be faced with losing our fire-based ambulance service due to poor money management, increasing the response time and putting our families in danger. With people in government that can plan for the future, the city of Sutherlin can grow and prosper.
