Stan McKnight

Office sought: Sutherlin mayor, challenger

Age: 70

Occupation: Retired real estate broker

Military service: U.S. Army, three years

Education: Ludlow High School, Ludlow, Ky., 1956

Public service: Sutherlin Mayor, three terms, 1989-1995; Sutherlin City Council, 1986-1989; Sutherlin Planning Commission, 1976-1986

Why are you running for office: As mayor, I want to save our fire and ambulance service, reduce water rates and keep our street lights turned on. I feel we need to cut expenses of city government. I think we need to get a sewer line south on Highway 99. This would open up some needed industrial land for development, providing jobs. It would allow Exit 135 opening for commercial development, improving our tax base without adding strain on public utilities. As mayor, I want to bring the pride back to Sutherlin.
