“Our kids played hard, but we didn’t get it done,” Hubbard said. “We couldn’t stop Jacob Mitchell. But it was a totally awesome year. I told the (13) seniors this was one of the best seasons in the 21 years I’ve been here. They’re a great bunch of kids.”

SKYLINE LEAGUE

Elkton 35

Days Creek 20

DAYS CREEK — Mackenzie Smith threw three touchdown passes and the Elks spoiled what Gene Forman said was very likely his last game as head coach of Days Creek.

“It was a lot of fun,” Forman said after his squad’s season finale. “It’s disappointing because I know we could have done better, but we have no excuses. Sometimes things just don’t go your way.”

Smith ran 21 times for 165 yards and went 8-for-18 for 111 yards for the Elks. He also made 15 tackles and intercepted a pass on defense. Bronson Owens led the Wolves (4-5) with 25 carries for 298 yards and three touchdowns, including 53, 50 and 60-yard scores. Brent Whipple recorded 61 rushing yards and touchdown on 12 carries, caught an 8-yard touchdown pass and made 19 tackles for Elkton (4-4).

“We just got outplayed,” said Forman. “They have some good athletes. We had a couple opportunities we didn’t capitalize on.”

“It’s a nice way to end the season,” said Elkton coach Bill Shaw said. “I’m awful proud of the kids.”

Camas Valley 78

Powers 22

CAMAS VALLEY — Each of Camas Valley’s four seniors found the end zone as the Hornets pasted rival Powers in their season finale.

Kurt Dever ran for 148 yards, including touchdown runs of 85 and 55 yards, Howard Wood returned a fumble 40 yards to paydirt and Michael Barraza caught one of four Ryan Dancer TD passes. Camas Valley finishes the season with a 5-3 record and fourth in the Skyline League.

“Barraza, Ben Carter and Kurt Dever — all 5-foot-7, 140-pound kids — were scrappy and resilient for us,” Camas Valley coach Eli Wolfe said. “Howard did a good job on both lines. They were great leaders and the underclassmen learned a lot from them.”

Junior Chase Elliott caught the other three Dancer TD passes, finishing with 99 receiving yards and also returned a kickoff 60 yards for a scored with under two minutes to play.
