R.A. Bud Adams passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, after a rich life of 85 years filled with hard work, laughter, joy, and service to family and community. The youngest son of Leroy and Katie Adams, Bud was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon on September 16, 1923. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal, his two brothers Jack Leroy Adams and William Milton (Jill) Adams, and two sisters, Ivy and Sylvia. He is survived by sisters, Dorothy (Springfield, Oregon) and Betty (Marysville, Washington); two sons, Robert (wife, Debby) Tualatin, Oregon, and Michael (wife, Kimberly), Tacoma, Washington; and four grandchildren who were the joy of his life: Whitney, Cameron, Alison, and Lindsey.
Bud was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the European theatre during World War II. He served his country as a surgical technician aboard the U.S.S. Huddleston, a hospital ship that travelled between England and France. After the war he worked numerous jobs in the logging industry. He spent 14 years in Norway, OR before moving to Winston in 1966. He worked for the Bureau of Land Management for 22 years and retired at age 65. Buds idea of retirement was to work another 20 years with the Winston Water District.
His generous spirit and life of service were exemplary. He helped establish VFW chapter, post 9745. He was a long-time volunteer for the Winston-Dillard Melon Festival and was honored as the Grand Marshall for the 2008 parade. He also served as a volunteer with Fire District #5 and was a key figure in the development of the Winston City Parks. After 10 years of moving people with Dial-a-Ride, the Chamber of Commerce honored him in 1996 with the First Citizen Award. Who can say they were not helped by Bud in some way or another?
He requested a private funeral, but a public farewell Celebration of Life to honor his legacy will be held November 22, 2008, at the Winston Community Center beginning at 3 p.m. Friends will be invited to share their favorite Bud story. Our thanks to all the great folks in Winston who always looked in on him. Special thanks to Evelyn, Lucille, Dave, Bob, Randy, Sara, and Connie.
Blessed with the ability to see the positive side of life, Bud always had a way of cheering folks up. Our request is that you remember the laughter and service with which he lived his life, and that you would have peace of mind in knowing he is with the Lord. Its the Lords turn to deal with Buds sense of humor now.

Age 82, of Glide, Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2008. She was born on June 12,1926, to parents, Charles and Eva Bolyard. Betty was born in Phillipi, West Virginia, and was the eldest of six children. She grew up in a remote coal mining town graduating from high school. She then put herself through college earning a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. She married Ernest Leroy Farris December 1949. They moved to Ohio and there had four children. In 1959, due to Ernest's health, the family moved to southern California. He died in 1963. Betty returned to college and earned a Masters in Nursing from UCLA. She taught nursing at Mt. San Antonio College from 1966, until she retired and moved to Glide in 1983. She worked in Roseburg, Oregon, as a nursing supervisor at Douglas Community Hospital and Grandview Care Home for several years, eventually retiring to her home on Whistlers Park Rd. She loved Glide and the river view from her house watching the squirrels, deer, and raccoons. She was an avid reader occasionally starting and finishing a book in a day. Many of us were grateful recipients of the many beautiful afghans and slippers she crocheted. She enjoyed attending church and bible study at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Glide. Betty especially relished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who miss her dearly. Her noble spirit and gent9le heart were always an inspiration for those of us who loved her. There will be a memorial service at the Glide Seventh Day Adventist Church on Sunday, November 2, 2008, at 3 p.m. Betty will be interred at a private ceremony in California. Sons, Jeff; Mark; Rick; daughters, Cathy; brothers, Frank; Russell; Curtis; sisters, Mary; Sherry.
