BOYS BASKETBALL: UVC boys capture Cow Creek Classic; Riddle, Oakland, Elkton, Days Creek, CCA win; Douglas, Glide, North Douglas, Camas Valley lose

BOYS HOOPS

RIDDLE — Austin Stone and Kyle Monteith combined for 43 points as Umpqua Valley Christian claimed the first place trophy at the Cow Creek Classic with a 57-42 win over Yoncalla Saturday.

Stone had a tournament-high 22 points and Monteith had 21 points for the Monarchs (2-0). Mitchell Graham added 10 points.

Heath Anson scored 13 points for the Eagles and Adam Peterson added nine points.

Riddle 58

Powers 42

RIDDLE — Andrew Serda scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds to help Riddle (1-2) beat Powers and pick up the program’s first win since the 2006-07 season and take third place at the Cow Creek Classic.

Colton Hanson, who was named to the first-team all-tournament list, recorded 11 points and Josh Napper had seven assists for the Irish.

Kyle Arter scored 13 points and Yoncalla edged Riddle 49-44 on Friday. Serda recorded 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Oakland 62

Douglas 56

WINSTON — Coleton Baker scored a career-high 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds and the Oakers won the Douglas Boosters Tip-off Tournament.



Nathan Adams 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals and Josh Reber added 10 points for the Oakers, who outscored the Trojans 19-9 in the second quarter.

Josh Tingle scored 22 points and Sky Woods and Ethan Powell had 11 each for Douglas, which pulled within four in the fourth quarter.

Glide 54

WINSTON — Five games in six days caught up with Glide in the consolation game of the Douglas Booster Tipoff Tournament in a close loss. The Wildcats were held to five points in the fourth quarter and made only 20 of 33 free throw attempts.

Daniel Muntifering scored 21 points to lead the Red Devils while Heston Altenbach had 11 points and Ryan Young 10.

Will Hissong scored a career-high 20 points to lead Glide and Levi Bonnell had 11.

Elkton 64

North Douglas 60, OT

ELKTON — Mackenzie Smith recorded a team-high 22 points and five assists and the Elks eked out an overtime win in the championship game of their Elkton Tip-off Tournament.

Noah Miller added 17 points and Brent Whipple had 11 and six rebounds for Elkton, which finished 22-of-33 at the free-throw line.

Cameron Derrick scored a game-high 30 points for North Douglas and Jordan Hicks, who added 16 points, nailed two late three-pointers to help push the contest into OT. The Elks hit all eight of their free throws in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Days Creek 44

Colton 35

COLTON — Days Creek sank key free throws and held Colton to five points in the fourth quarter to claim first place at the Colton Tournament.

Tyler Hays scored 18 points and Bryar Zimmerman had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Wolves (3-0). Both were named to the all-tournament team. Evan Stanbro led Colton with 18 points.

Camas Valley 43

PROSPECT — Evan Tilton hit a tying basket late in the fourth quarter, and after missing a free throw, teammate Ryan Dancer got a rebound and putback to give Camas Valley the lead for good in the consolation game of the Prospect Tournament.

Kurt Dever led a balanced attack for the Hornets (1-1) with 10 points. Chase Elliott scored eight points, Richard Andreas added seven and Aaron Stotler had six.

PROSPECT — Shane Kelley scored 18 points to lead Prospect to a win in the first round of their own tournament and spoil Camas Valley’s season opener on Friday.



Aaron Stotler scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Hornets.

CANYONVILLE — Stanley Hsu scored 14 points, Dilshod Madiev grabbed 13 rebounds to go with 10 points and the Pilots (3-0) captured their own tournament title.
