Born April 29, 1915, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at the age of 93, as a result of respiratory illness.
Roseburg had been Petes home almost all of his adult life. He had a long, successful career as a real estate broker and a reputation for being scrupulously honest. He found many ways to contribute to his community, helping to bring new business, jobs and services to Roseburg and surrounding areas. As acting mayor and then elected mayor, he helped put the city back together after the infamous Roseburg Blast devastated large portions of the downtown area in 1959.
Pete was also renowned as a hunter and conversationalist who traveled to the most remote regions of six continents, drawn by his fascination with wildlife, geography and the cultures of those who lived there. Pete was always soft-spoken and modest about his many accomplishments. He was quietly generous in support of charities.
Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ina in 2007. He will be missed but remembered with deep affection by his family and many friends. Pete is survived by his son, Barry and his grandchildren, Lisa, Sandra, David and Jamie. No funeral services are planned. Condolences may be sent to Barry Serafin, 2832 Martinique Avenue, Eugene, Oregon, 97408.
