GIRLS BASKETBALL: Camas Valley, Yoncalla, Days Creek, Glendale win; Roseburg, Reedsport, Oakland, UVC, Douglas fall

Hidden Valley 45

Douglas 29

AURORA — Jamie Richardson scored 21 points to lead the Mustangs past the Trojans in the championship game of the North Marion Holiday Tournament.

Emily James had eight points and Stacia Blankenship six for Douglas (6-4), which fell behind 12-0 to start the contest but outscored Hidden Valley 14-8 the remainder of the half to stay in contention.

“They’re a very good team — active and physical — and we made eight turnovers in the first four minutes,” said Douglas coach Jason Dickover. “But I’m proud of the way our girls came back in the second quarter.”

Grants Pass 43

Roseburg 16

GRANTS PASS — The Indians’ shooting struggles continued in a loss to the Cavers in their Southwest Conference opener.

Stephanie Pepperling led Grants Pass (6-2 overall) with 10 points. Courtney Hutchins had seven points and Marah Baker five for Roseburg (0-7). Sophomore Ty Fultz grabbed six rebounds.

The Tribe travels to North Medford Tuesday.

ROGUE RIVER — Shawna Turnham recorded a game-high 16 points, Kelly Maxey finished with 11 points, nine assists and eight steals and the Chieftains forced 41 turnovers. Chelsea Hitchcock registered a team-high 10 points for Reedsport.

Western Mennonite 42

Oakland 33

SALEM — Rebekah Penrose scored 16 points and Adria Ivanitsky had 14 and Western Mennonite used a big third quarter to down visiting Oakland.

Taylor McLean had 15 points to lead the Oakers (4-4). Brittany Baimbridge added 10.

Oakland returns home Thursday to open Mountain View Conference play against Riddle.

St. Mary’s 64

UVC 35

MEDFORD — Veronica Valadez scored 18 points to lead the 2A Crusaders past the 1A Monarchs in a non-league game.

Sara Harding paced the Monarchs (3-5) with 11 points, and Jorden Zerbach added eight points and nine rebounds. UVC, which bounced back from a rough first quarter to outscore St. Mary’s 12-6 in the second quarter, travels to Pacific next Saturday.

Camas Valley 49

McKenzie 37

CAMAS VALLEY — Amber Wafer sank five three-point field goals en route to a 21-point performance, Christina Carter added 13 points and four assists and the Hornets avenged an earlier loss to McKenzie.

Karissa Harbick also hit five threes — including three in the fourth quarter — to lead McKenzie with 23 points. Danielle Townsend registered seven points and 15 rebounds and Lisa Ferrara had three steals for Camas Valley (5-2), which hosts Riddle Tuesday.

Yoncalla 43

Elkton 18

ELKTON — Heather McDonald scored 13 points, and Amanda Thorp had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead the 2A Eagles (9-1) past the 1A Elks in a non-league game.

McDonald hit three 3-point field goals. Robin Whipple led Elkton (2-5) with seven points and seven rebounds.

Days Creek 39

Mohawk 31

DAYS CREEK — Olivia Golemon scored 16 points and had 11 steals and the Wolves survived poor free throw shooting in a non-league win.

Days Creek (3-5) opens Skyline League play Friday against Powers.

Glendale 45

Pacific 31

GLENDALE — Rori Lovemark scored a game-high 18 points, Lexii Lovelady recorded 13 and Jenna Henry added 10 for the Pirates in a win.
