Local Democrats donated more than three truckloads of clothing and accessories to the Confidence Clinic in Roseburg as a result of a recent clothing drive sponsored by the Douglas County Democrats, according to a news release.
The clothing will be distributed to women who use the clinic and who are going for job interviews or starting new jobs. Umpqua Community Action Network runs the Confidence Clinic.
Donations of quality womens clothing are still being accepted at the local Democrats headquarters, 827 S.E. Cass Ave.
The project was the first of six community service projects the local Democrats have planned this year in response to President Barack Obamas national Call to Service.
On May 14, local Democrats will help with clean-up projects in Stewart Park and along the Umpqua River. To volunteer, call Pat at 672-2916 or pzemlin@msn.com.
For three weekends in May, volunteers will spruce up homes of local seniors. Call 672-9450 or e-mail henrififer@aol.com for information.
Future projects include community garden work in June; produce and fruit gleaning in the fall, donating some of the food to UCAN; collecting donations for students going back to school in late summer; a school beautification project; and a December and January food drive.
Volunteers will be working with the SMART Program and Project Literacy throughout the year. Call 733-1115 or e-mail lornahayden@msn.com for information.
The group also is planning a field trip to Discovery Garden at 5:30 p.m. April 28. For more information on that or the groups other activities, call the Douglas County Democratic headquarters at 672-8803 or call 672-8094.
