A shed beside a mobile home ignited Saturday evening, causing a small blaze in nearby grass that firefighters were able to quell before it spread to any other structures, according to a news release.
Firefighters from the Glide Rural Fire Protection District were called at about 6:30 p.m. to a fire at a mobile home at 480 Brown Street. The homes owner, Janet Chitwood, was at home with relatives and started spraying the shed with garden hoses, firefighters said. Those efforts, along with the homes proximity to the fire station, enabled firefighters to limit the damage to heat blistering on the homes vinyl siding and a hot tub. The shed and all its contents were lost as well, firefighters said.
Fire district member Jody Fugate said there were about seven people at home at the time of the blaze and that no one was injured. A few fish had to be removed from a koi pond because of debris falling into the water, Fugate said.
Firefighters hadnt determined a cause for the shed fire, but Fugate said the shed was used to store paint and gas-powered lawn equipment.
Fourteen Glide fire district volunteers responded, as did firefighters from Douglas County Fire District No. 2.
