Roseburg captures Brookings Tournament

BROOKINGS — The Clint Newell Cruisers rolled to the championship of the Brookings Junior State Tournament last weekend, going 4-0.

On Friday, the Roseburg team defeated Brookings 10-2 and Florence 15-6. On Saturday the Cruisers beat Coquille 12-2 to advance to Sunday's championship game, where they again beat Florence, 11-7.

“My guys who don't normally get into our rotation got a chance to pitch and guys some needed at-bats,” Roseburg coach Tim Sustaire said. “It was a good thing for them to get a chance to swing the bats and show us what they have.”

The Cruisers play either Crater or Klamath Falls today at 5:30 p.m. at Sunshine Park in the second round of the league tournament, with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the state tournament.
