So you know ...
Roseburg and Glide residents are not the only ones in Douglas County who will get to view a military plane flyover on the Fourth of July.
Two F-15 Eagle fighter jets will streak over Diamond Lake and the Diamond Lake Resort lodge at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, said Rick Rockholt in the marketing department at the resort.
The jets are part of the 173rd Fighter Wing of the Oregon Air National Guard that is usually based in Klamath Falls. The planes be coming from Boise, however, as the wing is currently deployed to Boise as work is being done on the runway in Klamath Falls.
Two fighter jets will be soaring over Roseburg to kick off the city's Fourth of July celebration Saturday.

The F-15 Eagles will be flying from west to east over Stewart Park at 2:25 p.m., Roseburg Airport Manager Tony Bunch said. The jets then will head east to fly over Glide.

The planes are part of the 142nd Fighter Wing of the Oregon Air National Guard based in Portland. “They'll be flying at a low altitude and a low speed,” Bunch said.

It was back in April when Bunch started the process to bring the jets here. Along the way, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Air Force's public affairs office in Washington, D.C., had to sign off on the arrangements.

Bunch encouraged residents to come to the park Saturday to watch the flyover.

“I think it's a patriotic occasion,” he said. “To have a flyover conducted by our military, America's finest, is great symbolism for this day.”

“It's not too often we get these types of airplanes to fly over Roseburg.”

The rest of Roseburg's Independence Day events kick off at 6 p.m. when vendors will fill Stewart and Fir Grove parks. Local entertainment will appear on the Nichols Band Shell stage starting at 6:20 p.m. Country western singer Amy Clawson will perform at 7:30 p.m.

The fireworks display will begin at 9:55 p.m. Tax deductible donations are still being accepted by the nonprofit committee that organized the day's activities.

Donations may be sent to: Roseburg Hometown Fourth of July Fireworks, P.O. Box 1351, Roseburg, OR 97470. Donations will be collected during Saturday's festivities as well.
