Of Glide, Oregon, died on Friday, July 31, 2009, at the age of 85. She was born Rosella May Davis, April 2, 1924, in Merlin, Oregon. As a child, she spent many years on a ranch in the Greensprings that her grandfather Darius Davis homesteaded at the turn of the century. Her early experiences formed in her a resolve, strength, and passion that never wavered throughout her life. In her quiet determined manner Rosie devoted her life to caring for others. Throughout her over 45-year career of service as a caregiver she worked faithfully to bring comfort and relief to her elderly patients at Riversdale Sanitarium, Rosehaven, and Mercy Home Healthcare not retiring until age 70. She was dedicated to Helping Hands, a community outreach program of Glide Seventh-day Adventist Church where she was a founding member and worshipped faithfully for over 30 years. She selflessly served her community and her church but her greatest devotion was to her family. She married Willis Age in Medford on August 10, 1944. They had four children and enjoyed 24 years together before Willis' sudden death. On April 9, 1970 Rosie married Delbert Ferren in Sutherlin. They shared nearly 40 years together on North Bank Road where there was always a bountiful garden and a pantry she stocked with such treasures as applesauce and peaches and where many lost kitties wandered to her doorstep and were given a new home. Rosie found her greatest joy in the moments she shared with her family and she loved with tenacity and grace. For this, she will be most cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In her final years, Rosella put forth a valiant fight with Alzheimer's disease. Rosie's family is grateful for the compassionate care she received during her time at Chantele's Loving Touch Memory Care. She was the beloved wife of Delbert Ferren of Glide, Oregon; treasured sister of Elizabeth Ford of Red Bluff, California, and Arthur Davis of Adrian, Oregon; much loved mother of Ronald Age and his wife, Doris of Bladenboro, North Carolina, Daniel Age of New York, New York, Deberah Age and her husband, Frank of Eugene, Oregon, Elizabeth Thomas and her husband, Geevy of Coconut Grove, Florida; and cherished grandma of Marca and her husband, Matt, Aprile, Julia, Andrea, Laura, Elizabeth, Rosita, Audrey, Joseph Willis, and great-granddaughter, Sara Graceanna. Rosella was preceded in death by her first husband, Willis Age and her grandchildren, Nathaniel and Sara Age. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Glide Seventh-day Adventist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor's Family Mortuary of Winston, Oregon. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Helping Hands of the Glide SDA Church or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America at www.alzfdn.org.
