Clarence Darrow was one of the most influential lawyers at the beginning of the 20th century. The play explores his life, career and some of his most famous cases. HOT UMPQUA NIGHTS AUCTION/ART RECEPTION — An art reception, dinner and art auction are set to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday with a 7 p.m. auction at the Elkton Community Education Center, 15850 Highway 38 West, Elkton. Reception for new exhibit featuring artist Susan Applegate followed by Hot Umpqua Nights art auction with work donated by regional artists. A barbecue dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Cost is $12.50 in advance or $15 at the door; reservations recommended. The band Slow Ponies will also perform. Proceeds benefit ECEC. 584-2692.
EUGENE OPERA — The Eugene Opera will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at MarshAnne Landing, 175 Hogan Road, Oakland. The opera will perform works from Mozart's “Marriage of Figaro” as part of the opera's outreach program. Seating is limited to 75 people. Admission is $30 and includes appetizers.
