Passed away in Roseburg, Oregon, on Friday, August 7, 2009. She was 85. She was born on November 12, 1923, to parents, John Jones and Lillie Smith in Coleman, Oklahoma, on April 5, 1941. She married Howard W. Whitten in Delight, Arkansas. She lived in this area since 1948. She was devoted to family and home and loved gardening, knitting, snowmobiling, boating and camping.
She is survived by her sons, Jack and Dennis and his wife, Margaret all of Roseburg; her sister, Mary Counts of Texas; granddaughter, Jennifer Gregory; and grandchildren, Jordan and Alyssa Gregory. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998.
A graveside service will be held at Roseburg Memorial Gardens on Friday, August 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Vernaís memory may be made to Mercy Hospice, 2400 Stewart Parkway, Suite 200, Roseburg, Oregon, 97471.
