Sonja M. Wooley



76 of Oakland, Oregon passed away Friday, September 4, 2009, in a Roseburg, Oregon, hospital. She was born May 24, 1933, in Toledo, Washington, to Helmer and Mary Oberg. Sonja graduated from Roseburg High School in 1951. In 1952 Sonja married Lawrence Dean Wooley in Winlock, Washington. The Wooley's moved from the Dean Creek area of Reedsport to the Kellogg area in the 80's. Sonja was a homemaker, great cook, enjoyed quilting and knitting and loved horses. She was a Life Member of the American Morgan Horse Association and was well know for her showmanship. While the Wooley's lived near Reedsport they attended Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Dean Wooley of Oakland, Oregon; daughter, Karen Mattes of Patterson, California; son, Steven Wooley of Oakland, Oregon; brother, Bert Oberg; grandchildren, Kristofer Hedges; Ann Marie Smith; Megan Murphy, and Jasmine and Ryan Wooley; great-grandchildren, Philip and Robert Hedges. Mrs. Wooley was preceded in death by a daughter, Nadine Wooley and a brother, Gilbert Oberg. At her request, the family will have a private service. Private cremation rites have been held.
