PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP: Indians blank Southridge

BEAVERTON — A goal by Josh Malone in the 10th minute held up and the Roseburg High boys soccer team used a strong defensive effort to shut out the Southridge Skyhawks 1-0 in a non-league game Saturday.

Goalkeeper Brandon Johnson made five saves for Roseburg (2-0-2). Coach Kevin Hunt said central defenders Reid Martin and Skyler Schroeder sparked the effort.

“As a unit, we played really well defensively,” Hunt said. “Josh (Malone) made his goal from about 30 yards out and it was a beautiful goal.”

The Indians were missing starting forward Brady Sherriff (knee). Roseburg opens Southwest Conference play next Saturday against Grants Pass at Finlay Field.

DISTRICT 3

UVC 7, Glide 0

GLIDE — Mitchell Graham, Tyler Smith and Tyler Shultz each scored two goals to help the Monarchs blank the Wildcats.

Trae Sjogren scored the other goal for UVC (2-0 league), which led 3-0 at halftime. Graham, Sjogren, Jacob Brint and Dominic Rocco made assists, and goalkeepers Shultz and Kaizer Cox combined for the shutout.

Glide dropped to 0-2 in league.

CCA 7, Rogue River 2

ROGUE RIVER — Alex Mikue recorded four goals and an assist and the Pilots stormed past the Chieftains.

Roberto Malpica had two goals and two assists, Nyeong Jun Kim netted a goal and Hyeon Min Jeong added two assists for the Pilots (1-1). Goalkeeper Nikita Firsankov recorded six saves.

GIRLS

Southridge 3

Roseburg 1

BEAVERTON — The Indians became the first team to score against Southridge this season, but it wasn't enough in a non-league loss.

Anna Montoya scored a pair of goals — a tying goal in the 27th minute and an insurance goal with two minutes to play — for the Skyhawks (5-0). Rachel Carlson scored the go-ahead goal in the 44th minute.

“Carlson had two beautiful shots for 35 yards out that had to be perfectly placed and they were,” Roseburg coach Adam Blue said. “The girls played well and did it against a good team. There are always things we can work on, but I wasn't too disappointed with the game.”

Emma Krnacik scored in the 15th minute for the Indians, who finished the preseason 3-2. Roseburg opens Southwest Conference play next Saturday at Grants Pass.
