An Elkton teenager was flown to a Portland hospital after his vehicle crashed Saturday afternoon on Highway 138 West, Oregon State Police reported this morning.
Derek Aaron Anderson, 18, was driving a 1990 Honda Civic west near Milepost 15 at 1:54 p.m. when he lost control of the car and it crossed the eastbound lane of travel, OSP reported.
The car continued onto the shoulder and struck several trees on the south side of the road. Anderson was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center and then lifeflighted to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with serious, life-threatening head injuries. His condition was not available this morning.
Passenger Colton James Maxwell, 14, of Elkton was taken to Mercy Medical Center. He was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. Both teens were wearing seat belts, OSP Trooper Tom Willis said this morning. The car was too old to have air bags.
As the road was wet, it was not possible to determine if speed was a factor in the crash, Willis said this morning.
Kellogg Rural Fire District, Sutherlin Ambulance, Kellogg EMT and Medcom Ambulance also responded to the scene.
