SOCCER ROUNDUP: UVC girls soccer team falls in shootout



Umpqua Valley Christian's girls soccer season ended in heartbreaking fashion on Monday.

The Monarchs lost a shootout and the game against visiting North Bend, falling 4-3 in a Class 4A/3A/2A/1A District 3 playoff at River Forks Park.

The two clubs were tied 3-3 at the end of regulation, then neither team scored during the two overtimes, forcing the shootout. The Bulldogs were successful on three attempts, with Taylor Cribbins, Kyla Feaster and Amelia Liggett finding the back of the net. Beth Logerstedt was the only UVC player to score in the shootout.

UVC (6-5-2) finished third in District 3 during the regular season, while North Bend (6-3-4) was fourth.

The Monarchs got goals from Logerstedt (32nd minute), Arielle Chasteen (44th) and Sarah Patton (58th) during regulation. Cribbins delivered a hat trick for North Bend, scoring three goals.

BOYS: FAR WEST LEAGUE

Coquille 2, Sutherlin 1

COQUILLE — The Red Devils ended the Bulldogs' season with a victory in a Class 4A District 3 playoff game.

Coquille's Cole Waddington opened the scoring in the 26th minute, deflecting the ball into the net after Sutherlin's Schuyler Hutchings attempted to clear the ball in front of goalie Kyle Knox. Ryan Dannels added a goal for Coquille in the 44th minute off an assist from Stefan Cvetkovic.

Cody Martineau scored for the Bulldogs in the 56th minute.
