Mel Harris brought home several pieces of hardware for his shooting accuracy in the recent Cast Bullet Association 2009 championship. The Roseburg shooter was the overall winner, earning an unprecedented third grand championship.
Mel Harris remains as sharp as ever, especially when he's on the backside of his rail rifle.
So on shot after shot at the recent Cast Bullet Association's 2009 championship competition in Raton, N.M., Harris grouped his shots almost on top of each other or on the center dot of the bull's eye target. He competed in the unrestricted class.
The result after two days of shooting for the Green resident was another Grand National Championship, an unprecedented third for the 61-year-old sharpshooter. He not only won all of his matches in his class, but accumulated more points than any of the shooters in any of the five classes.
He had a perfect score of 200 while shooting from 100 yards the first day and barely missed two dots on the second day while shooting from 200 yards, finishing at 198.
Harris, who works for Bruce Stanley Construction, had previously won grand championships in 1999 and in 2008. With last year's win, he had become only the second two-time grand champ and now he's the first three-time champ.
