Rudy Rae Adevai Jr. seemed to finally have it all, said his aunt, Kathy Roles of Glide, in a phone interview Saturday.
A wife, Tayler, whom he wed July 11, and a two-year-old son, Giovane.
“He was happy,” was what Roles remembers her nephew telling her on his wedding day. “He felt he had everything he ever wanted.”
But that life ended abruptly for 26-year-old Adevai on Thursday evening. At about 7:15 p.m., his 2004 Chrsyler PT Cruiser veered off a road in Central Point, according to the Mail Tribune of Medford.
Adevai, a former Glide resident who was living in Central Point, died at the scene. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said Adevai was driving alone in the 7800 block of Old Stage Road when his car veered off the rural road for unknown reasons.
The car went into a ditch and rolled. Adevai was ejected from the vehicle.
Roles said she and her husband Jim raised Adevai from the time he was 3 — after a relative “deposited him on our doorstep” — until he was 8.
After that, he spent time in a foster home in Merlin, then moved to California and then to Central Point. “He had a really hard life,” said his cousin, 16-year-old Kayla Niemi, adding that Adevai's father died before he was born.
“But he was the most amazing, beautiful person I ever met,” she added. “He was very kind and opened his arms to everyone.
“He was always smiling. He always had something to talk about. He was just a really nice person all the way around,” she said, crying as she talked.
Niemi said she was hoping to move in with him and his wife and son in the next year or two.
“It's really sad,” she said.
