Police cruiser hits stopped vehicle in Winston

Two people were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg after a Douglas County sheriff's patrol car collided with a private vehicle at the intersection of Highway 42 and Abraham Avenue on Saturday morning in Winston.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., Deputy Nicholas Hansen was on the way to assist a Winston police officer in pursuit of a stolen vehicle when he encountered the 2007 Volvo driven by Kimberly Allen, 52, address unknown. Hansen believed Allen was going to pull out in front of his vehicle, which had its lights flashing and siren on. He tried to turn to avoid a collision, but as the vehicle remained stopped at the intersection, the two collided.

Both Allen and her 8 year-old granddaughter were taken to the hospital and found to have no injuries.
