Varnum
Local law enforcement officers are asking the public for help in locating a wanted subject, Nicholas James Varnum, 24.
Varnum is wanted on a felony probation violation warrant, according to a Douglas County Sheriff's Office news release.
He also is a suspect in a high-speed chase that took place Saturday morning, sheriff's Deputy Brian Hutchings said this morning.
In that incident, Varnum is suspected of leading police on a chase that began when a Winston police officer tried to stop the vehicle he was driving on Highway 42 because it had the wrong plates on it, according to a Winston Police Department news release.
The driver sped onto Lookingglass Road and then led police on a high-speed chase through the Melrose area, jumping out of the car on Cleveland Loop Road.
Varnum is wanted for alleged attempting to elude police in that incident.
According to the sheriff's office news release, Varnum is 6 feet, 1 inch tall, weighs 190 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos on his leg, chest, calf and back.
A $500 reward is being offered for information that leads to Varnum's arrest. If anyone has information as to Varnum's whereabouts they should call the Douglas County communications center at 440-4471 or the sheriff's office tip line at 957-2099.
Varnum may be armed and should be considered dangerous. Residents should not approach or attempt to contact him.
