Thanksgiving meals plentiful around Douglas County

Harvest Christian Assembly is expecting 300 guests for the Myrtle Creek Church's annual Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.

This is the sixth year for the free dinner, which attracted about 250 people last year. Letters were sent out to pastors of all South County churches advertising the event, but everyone is invited.

The dinner will feature turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and green beans, rolls and pumpkin pie, along with some cakes.

Delivery service is available to people who cannot make it to the Myrtle Community Center, at the corner of Second Avenue and Division Street in Myrtle Creek.

Volunteers will also provide rides to people who don't have a way to get to the center. Call 863-5658 for a ride or to arrange delivery service.

Down the road in Canyonville, the Hillside Christian Church will serve dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. The church is located at 350 E. Third St.

That same day, the Roseburg Rescue Mission will serve its annual Thanksgiving dinner beginning at 1 p.m.

The mission began handing out food baskets to needy families on Monday and continued today.

St. Joseph Community Kitchen is hosting its annual Thanksgiving dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today.

The kitchen is located at St. Joseph School, 630 W. Stanton St. in Roseburg.

St. Francis Xavier Community Kitchen will serve a Thanksgiving meal from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. That kitchen is at 232 W. Comstock Ave. in Sutherlin.
