While at home, willingly went to heaven on Friday, November 20, 2009, when she succumbed to cancer. She was born in Centralia, Washington, on November 26, 1926, when her mom was 26 years old. She was raised in Ryderwood, Washington, where her father, Ralph Everett Snider, was a woods foreman and her mother, Helen Beatrice, was well known for her showcase home. Donna was salutatorian of her graduation class from Ryderwood High School, then studied accounting and graduated from Centralia Junior College. From there, she went to work at the court house in Chehalis, Washington. She met her husband, Alvin Eugene (Gene) Peck and were married on December 27, 1949, in Chehalis, and moved to Coos Bay, Oregon. They moved to Roseburg, Oregon, on May 10, 1953, where she worked at Southern Oregon Battery for several years. Then joined her husband in opening Bowles Realty after she obtained her salesman and then broker's license. At age 51, she graduated from Umpqua Community College obtaining her LPN license. She worked at Grandview Nursing Home, and did some private nursing before she officially retired.
Donna asked Jesus into her heart while attending Bible School as a young child. She was a long time member of North Roseburg Evangelical Church. In 1970, during a church building project, she was responsible for most of the staining and varnishing of the lower support beams in the present sanctuary. She did most of the work late at night, and tells the story of being embarrassed when workers would find her asleep the next morning still at church. Donna was known as the "Wordless Book" lady, as she made thousands of these felt books for Child Evangelism, to be given to the children telling the story of salvation.
Donna always had a project she was working on. She especially enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and quilting. She earned numerous blue ribbons at the Douglas County Fair and enjoyed giving gifts of her handiwork to family and friends, always enjoying a new challenge. Donna's wedding and baby quilts; crocheted hats, scarves, shawls, and afghans; and embroidered pillow cases will be treasured by many for years to come. Her last days were spent finishing baby quilts for her new, and loved great-grand babies. She was very proud of and loved all her family, enjoyed activities with family and friends, and was always ready for a game of cards. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed by her devoted husband of 60 years, Alvin Eugene Peck; daughters, Juanita Lynn Boyer and husband, Mark; Kathryn Jean Lewis and husband, Steve; son-in-law, Jeffery Lewis all of Roseburg; grandchildren, Daniel Boyer and wife, Brooke of Indianapolis, Indiana; Vicki Smith and husband, Ben of Brisbane, California; Andrew Boyer (just recently returned from Iraq), Stephanie Boyer; Angela Boyer; Bryanne Watson and husband, Myke (stationed in Iraq) all of Roseburg; Ryan Lewis of Portland, Oregon, and Nathan Lewis stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, with his wife, Dayna; great-grand children, Madelyn, Amelia, Landon, Jayden, Alayna, and Keller Eugene; and brother, Robert Snider and wife, Margaret of Winlock, Washington, and their family.
