David Mudge
ROSEBURG — A memorial service for U.S. Navy sailor David Mudge of Sutherlin will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
The public service, which will include full military honors, will be in Pacific Hall on the north end of the Conference Hall building.
Mudge, 22, was killed on board the USS Rentz in an electrical accident on Dec. 28 while the ship was in Port Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates.
His body was brought back to Douglas County Sunday and will be at the Chapel of the Roses until Wednesday.
Mudge leaves behind six siblings and his parents, Larry and Judy Mudge, who live in Sutherlin.
Also Wednesday, Gov. Ted Kulongoski ordered flags to half-staff at all state institutions in memory of the local man.
“David served his country with honor and dedication,” Kulongoski said in a press release. “His sacrifice for our country will never be forgotten, and I ask all Oregonians to join me in honoring his memory as flags fly at half-staff on Wednesday.”
