UCC men bounced from tourney



ALBANY — The Umpqua Community College men's basketball team led at halftime and played close throughout but couldn't overcome a rebounding deficit in a 74-68 loss to Skagit Valley in consolation semifinals of the Linn-Benton Crossover Tournament Saturday afternoon.

SVC outrebounded the Riverhawks 47-30, leading to 13 second-chance points. Andrew Beatty led the Cardinals with 22 points off 7-for-9 shooting from the field, and Jeb Hobbs had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sean Stickney had 14 points.

Kyle Kromminga led Umpqua (1-5) with a game-high 23 points off the bench and Trevor Clemo added 21 points.

ALBANY — Darious Walker scored 22 points and fourth-ranked Tacoma dismantled the Riverhawks at the Linn-Benton Cross-over Tournament.

Trevor Clemo had 13 points and Coleton Baker and Elisseo Nieves each scored 11 for Umpqua, which was outscored 59-29 in the second half.

“The sad thing is we were with them for three quarters of the game, then the wheels fell off the bus at the end,” UCC coach Rich Robles said. “They were coming at you like a bunch of hornets the whole time.”
