Power delays Elkton school

8:00 a.m. update

Power is back up for most residents in North County now.

Douglas Electric Co-op notified The News-Review that, with the exception of the Kellogg area, power to about 2,000 co-op members in North County was restored.

7:30 a.m. update

Douglas Electric Cooperative expects power outages in North County areas to be back up soon.

Power outages have delayed the Elkton School District by two hours this morning.

Todd Munsey, director of member services, said a large tree went through a transmission line, affecting service to Elkton, Loon Lake, Drain, Curtin areas. Tyee and Oakland are having power problems because of downed trees.

The largest outage is between the Elkton Tunnel to Loon Lake he said.

"Our biggest problem was locating it," he said this morning. "Bottom line, we're so darn rural they literally had to get on four wheelers to find the problem."

Power crews found the problem at about six this morning and Munsey said they were in the process of heating it up now and expected power to be back online soon.

Munsey said the power went out early this morning or late last night.

Reports from resident said power had been out in Kellog since 11 p.m. Monday.

ELKTON — Elkton schools will start two hours later than normal today, according to a notice this morning from the FlashAlert Newswire Web site.

The reason for the delay was not immediately clear. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
