Marilyn Kittelman
The News-Review
Former Douglas County Commissioner Marilyn Kittelman filed Friday for the District 4 seat in the Oregon Senate held by Floyd Prozanski, D-Eugene.
Kittelman filed to run in the Republican primary. So far, no one else has filed to run in that primary. Prozanski, who has held the seat since 2003, is the lone Democrat in the primary.
District 4 takes in Eugene and portions of rural Lane County, along with northern Douglas County, including Drain, Yoncalla, Elkton, Oakland and Sutherlin. It also includes portions of eastern Douglas County away from the Interstate 5 corridor.
Kittelman, who resides in Yoncalla, lost by nearly 9,500 votes to Susan Morgan in the May 2008 primary for Douglas County commissioner. She served one four-year term, then took over as co-publisher of the weekly Roseburg Beacon newspaper.
Her co-publisher, David Jaques, is listed as Kittelman's campaign director for her Senate run, according to documents filed with the Oregon Secretary of State's office. Jaques previously served as Kittelman's unpaid adviser during her term as commissioner.
Kittelman has $874 left over from her 2008 campaign fund. That money can be used in her current run for office.
Prozanski, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has $58,834 in his campaign fund. Since the first of the year, he has raised $5,946.
The primary election will take place May 18.
