Riverhawk women bounce back, beat Chemeketa



SALEM — The sixth-ranked Umpqua Community College women's basketball team bounced back from a 20-point loss to Clackamas, defeating Chemeketa 92-81 Saturday in a Southern Region game.

Sophomore guard Kate Wilton had 24 points, nine assists and three steals for the Riverhawks (13-5, 5-2 South). Nneamaka Anyanwu finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds, Ellesse Brandis 13 points and eight rebounds, and Mykiea Russell 10 points and four assists.

Ashley Walczak led the Storm (4-12, 2-4) with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Destiny Cowan, a freshman from Sutherlin, had six points and six rebounds for Chemeketa.

OREGON CITY — The fourth-ranked Cougars shot 64 percent from the field in the second half and pulled away from the No. 6 Riverhawks on Friday.

Rylee Peterson poured in 32 points, and added 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for Clackamas. Kate Wilton finished with 22 points and five steals for UCC, which shot 35 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes. Nneamaka Anyanwu had 21 points and 10 rebounds.

SALEM — Tyrone Phillips scored 22 points, converting all 10 of his free throws, as the seventh-ranked Storm routed the Riverhawks in a Southern Region game.

Anthony Freeman had 16 points for Chemeketa (15-2, 5-2 South). Eliseo Nieves led Umpqua (4-14, 2-5) with 16 points and eight rebounds. Coleton Baker contributed eight points, but was only 3-for-12 from the field.

OREGON CITY — Chehales Tapscott had 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead the second-ranked Cougars past the Riverhawks on Friday.

Former Oakland High standout Coleton Baker finished with 21 points, five assists and three steals for Umpqua, which shot 47 percent from the line.

Eliseo Nieves had 20 points and 15 rebounds.
