September 24, 1941 - January 31, 2010

A gathering of family and friends in Remembrance of Richard “Chick” Huelshoff, will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Coach House Restaurant, 604 6th Street in Coos Bay / Eastside.

Rich was born on September 24, 1941, in Coos Bay to Richard B. Huelshoff and Leta ( Baughman ) Huelshoff. He had been diagnosed with Lung Cancer last fall, and succumbed to his illness on Sunday, January 31, 2010. He was 68 years old.

Rich spent all of his early life in the Bay Area. He attended Eastside grade school, Marshfield Junior High and Marshfield High School, graduating in the class of 1959. Following graduation Rich enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Once he returned to civilian life Rich lived and worked in Roseburg for several years, then returned to Coos Bay where he met and married Cindy Elliott. Together they had two children, daughter, Amy and son, Justin. “Chick” gained experience as a truck driver while in the Bay Area and eventually became a long haul truck driver for Oregon Rubber Company, out of Eugene, Oregon, where he worked for over 20 years up until his death. Rich lived in Roseburg but would travel between Coos Bay and Portland to spend time with his extended family. His love for being on the road gave him the opportunity to spend ample time with his children and all four of his grandchildren.

Rich was a devoted father, grandfather and friend who would do anything for his friends and family. He was a very loving and compassionate person who had a gift for making those around him feel special and important. “Chick” enjoyed playing golf, clam digging, fishing, playing Santa during the holiday season, going on the annual Golf Safari Trip, meeting with friends at the Coach House Restaurant and, above all, spending as much quality time as possible with his family and close friends.

Rich is survived by his Son, Justin Huelshoff, of Portland, Oregon; daughter Amy Adams of North Bend, Oregon; sister, Susan Jackson of Springfield, Oregon; grandchildren, Austin and Aidan Adams of North Bend and Scarlett and Elliot Huelshoff of Portland; his very close friends, Kent Mulkins; Joe Cook; Paul Gammon and Jim Lorenz; who were like brothers to Rich and many other close friends.

Rich was preceded in death by both of his parents, Richard Huelshoff and Leta Ridle; and brother, Ron Barber.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Coos County Unit, 31 West 6th Street, Medford, Oregon, 97501.
