SPRINGFIELD — Junior Kaylin Bing won a pair of individual events and the Roseburg girls won all three relay races en route to capturing their third straight Southwest Conference district swimming championship on Saturday at Willamalane Park Swim Center.
The Indians compiled 418 points, 53 ahead of runner-up South Eugene with 365. The Roseburg boys finished third in a hotly-contested race with 350.5 points, trailing Grants Pass (370) and Sheldon (356.5).
Kaylin Bing took first in the 50 freestyle in 23.57 seconds and 100 free in 51.6. The 200 medley relay team of Molly Moore, Alex Bing, Kaylin Bing and Jennifer Lund won in 1:52.49; the 200 free relay quartet of Cally Tovey, Alex Bing, Allison Churchill and Jennifer Lund was victorious in 1:44.84; and the 400 free relay foursome of Melissa Lund, Rachel Murphy, Moore and Kaylin Bing finished first in 3:42.95.
Murphy was second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.89). Roseburg got third place finishes from Melissa Lund in the 200 free (2:05.61), Murphy in the 200 IM (2:15.9), Tovey in the 50 free (26.19), Jasmin Vogel in the 100 butterfly (1:08.08), Moore in the 100 backstroke (1:02.45) and Alex Bing in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.12).
The Roseburg boys were led by senior Corey Williams, who won the 100 breast (58.93) and was a member of three first place relay teams. Junior John Bing won the 200 free (1:46.52), and swam legs on the three victorious relay quartets.
The 200 medley relay of John Bing, Williams, Ajohni Leigh-Sanders and Jesse Archambault won easily in 1:40.19. The 200 free relay team of Justin Becherer, Williams, John Bing and Archambault prevailed in 1:30.84, while the 400 free relay foursome of Becherer, Williams, John Bing and Archambault was first in 3:17.94).
Archambault placed second in the 50 free (22.26), Kory Kast was third in the 100 breast (1:07.81) and Becherer finished fourth in the 100 fly (54.76).
