A new photographer has joined the staff of The News-Review.

Michael Sullivan became the paper's chief photographer on Monday. He comes to Roseburg following a nearly three-year stint as the sole photographer for The Sheridan Press in Sheridan, Wyo. Prior to that he worked for a group of weekly newspapers in San Diego, including the Rancho Sante Fe Review, Carmel Valley News and the Del Mar Village Voice.

Sullivan has a bachelor's degree in history, with an emphasis on Asian studies, from Western Washington University. He also attended San Diego City College, where he was photo editor and chief photographer for the student newspaper.

Sullivan spent much of his youth in the Seattle area, so he's pleased to return to work in the Pacific Northwest.

He replaces Robin Loznak, who resigned to start his own photography studio in Roseburg.
