Burnett, Marilyn Letha

76, 05/13/1933 03/12/2010

After a 10-year battle with cancer, Marilyn passed away at her home in Wood Village surrounded by family. She was 76. Born in Dubuque, Iowa, to Paul and Letha Frentress, Marilyn's family moved to Portland soon after her birth. They relocated to Myrtle Creek when she was 14 and she graduated from high school in 1951. During this time she met Gary Burnett; they married May 29, 1953. The couple initially resided in Eugene where their first son, Bruce, was born. They moved to Portland in 1958 before eventually settling in the Troutdale area where Gary became the town dentist. The couple's other children, Brenda and Jim, were born during this period. Over the years, in addition to raising her family, Marilyn worked for Lumber Products and was an area sales representative for Alaska Fish Fertilizer, as well as assisting with Gary's dental practice. Marilyn will be remembered for her loving nature with family and her many treasured friends. Among her favorite interests were family gatherings, gardening, ceramics, monthly bunco games and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Gary; son, Bruce and his wife, Abby of Vancouver; daughter, Brenda Deibert of Corbett; son, Jim of Gresham; sister, Marjorie Bates of Roseburg; brother, Tom and his wife, Edie of Eugene; grandsons, Jonathan, Matthew and Reece Burnett of Battle Ground, Wash.; Joey and Dusty Deibert of Corbett; Andrew Gutt and Barry and Taylor Burnett; and granddaughter, Hailey Burnett of Gresham; great-grandson, Cody Brooks of Eagle, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family expresses their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Gerald Segal and staff at Northwest Cancer Specialists of Portland. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2010, in Omega Funeral Home, 223 S.E. 122nd Ave., Portland, followed by a private burial ceremony in Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Providence Cancer Center of Portland.
