The owner of Los Dos Amigos Family Mexican Restaurant has issued a written apology to its patrons for the recent salmonella outbreak at the Jackson Street, Roseburg, business.

Thirty people reportedly got sick from the outbreak.

Owner Gustavo Anaya and his son Manny Anaya delivered letters to media outlets in Douglas County on Friday.

“We send our sincerest apologies to the people and family members who were affected by the salmonella outbreak,” the letter stated.

Manny Anaya said Saturday that the local restaurateur didn't want to comment on the $100,000 lawsuit filed against Los Dos Amigos by Melissa Surmon, one of the people who got sick after eating food there on April 12.

She was later hospitalized for four days.

The Douglas County Public Health Division has said its investigation found the outbreak affected 30 people between April 9 and 17.

In the letter, the restaurant stated state, local and its own investigation have worked closely to determine the cause of the outbreak.

“After taking various food and food surfaces samples, all test results came back negative, showing no evidence of salmonella,” the letter stated. “We have determined that the salmonella was caused by cross contamination in the form of an outside source.”

The outbreak was a first in Los Dos Amigos' 20 years operating in Douglas County, according to the Anayas' letter, which has had a negative impact on business.

“I'd be lying to you if I said it wasn't,” Manny Anaya said of the slower flow of diners. He added the family hoped and believed the pace would pick back up. The letter thanked Los Dos Amigos regulars for continuing to eat with them.
