Born to Charles T. and Mable J. (Gill) Shewsbury on April 27, 2010, in Twisp, Washington, and went her rest on July 4, 2010, Canyonville, Oregon. At 100 years old.
Martha attended grade school in Seattle, Washington, High School at Auburn Academy in Washington, Laurelwood Academy, Gaston, Oregon, and she attended La Sierra College in California.
She was married to George LeNoir Kruse, May 25, 1934. Martha began married life assisting with the operation of their dairy in Garden Valley. Sometimes preparing full meals, with deserts, for 30 or more dairy and farmhands during harvest season. They eventually moved the dairy to Harvard Avenue in Roseburg, Oregon, where she also assisted with operating “Kruse's Fruit Stand” and fruit and vegetable gardens, (at the site that is now the state office bldg. On Harvard Ave.) until 1955 and for a while the family continued with other farming and ranching pursuits in Douglas County.
By her marriage to LeNoir, Martha was one of the last remaining widows of a W.W.I Veteran.
After the death of LeNoir in 1970, Martha married Fred Nichols in 1977, who died in 1994.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sarita Matar sisters, Eveline Frank, Dorothy Fowler, and Mary Buckley. Survivors include, brother, Harvey Buckley; daughters, Elenoir “Dolly” and Charles Weber; Deland, Florida; Lynetta and Floyd Murdoch, Beltsville, Maryland; son, Lynden and Margie Kruse of Roseburg, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Private graveside services were held at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. She was an active and dedicated member of the seventh Day Adventist Church since her childhood and spent many years distributing gospel books as a “Literature Evangelist.” Martha went to her rest with faith in Jesus as her Savior and hope in His soon coming and the resurrection as described in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and many other promises. We will remember her as the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31:19-31, and “Her children rise up and call her blessed.” vs. 28. Gifts in her memory may be sent to “Better Life Broadcasting Network” P.O.
